What will you do to make what you want to happen, happen?

Currently it really feels like I am working two full time jobs. One job pays me a salary out of which all of our expenses come out of, and all of our savings, and anything extra. Yes I am the sole breadwinner of the family and have been for 7 months while my partner looks for a job that suits him.

The other job is paying me nothing. I have bits and pieces coming in from any “extra” work I put in, like writing, but nothing like an income. Even the parts that were earning me income I have abandoned as time wasting. Little fish may be sweet, but they also take up a lot of the fishing time I should be using to land whoppers.

I love the job that pays me nothing. I could do it 16 hours a day and sleep the rest of the time. The other job is not dreadful but it is just a means to an ends now, all of the energy I had for it is directed elsewhere. Don’t get me wrong, my employer is still getting their money’s worth from me, but they aren’t getting the extras that they could have had say 12 months ago.

I have prepared my manager, and his manager, with the news that i will be leaving their employment in just over 2 years time. They saw my conviction that it was going to happen, and they heard my promise that I would still continue to work hard for the company, and they both thanked me for my candour. I don’t like leaving people labouring under any misconceptions. They have me for two years and that is that…. make the best use of me while you can I said, and they nodded.

So here I am, working my butt off. A pretty hypocritical situation for someone who writes under the banner of the Four Hour Work Week Project. While I am grinding towards a couple of goals it is a job (even though I love it). But I am prepared to go through this rather burdensome period, kind of like a jet taking off and going through the turbulent bit before the clear skies flying when at the correct altitude.

If there are any of you reading this that are going through the same thing, hang in there. The seat belt signs will go out soon and we will be able to move freely about the cabin.
