You have to wonder whether you’re attracted to this person for who they are, or for what needs they fulfill in you? So much of life is just trial and error. You do something and see what happens. Or at least that is what life is to me. I have no idea what I’m doing.
Personally my idols have done so much. I feel like different elements of their work to speak to me more than others, but there has never been anything I’ve felt the need to consider ‘forgiving’ them for.
I keep referring to this quote from Scott Adams.
“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.”
- Scott Adams, ‘The Dilbert Principle’
While I like Dilbert, I don’t consider myself as being much of a Adams fan. But I love this idea of art versus creativity.
I recently watched Lady In The Water. It didn’t rock my world. I have enjoyed many films by M. Night Shyamalan and indeed The Village slips into my top ten favourite movies of all time. But I love his commitment to trying new things. I love that he keeps trying and experimenting, because somewhere among all the attempts there are pure gems.
This is such an open ended question that I can not give a complete answer.
It would mostly depend on why I considered the person a hero. If it is someone truly close to my heart it may be that I am hurt more by what they did than if it is someone that is not directly a big part of my life.
It also depends on what they did and their intent in doing what ever it was that I felt was wrong.
It also depends on what you consider a hero.
I also do not think anyone really can forgive and forget. I think if someone has hurt you it will always be in the back of your mind. With time it may not seem as prevalent but, if you think the person is even near doing the wrongful action again the doubt and memory of their previous error will be right back in the front of your mind.
I guess it comes down to every person and every situation is different.
Sorry I did not really answer the question.
